Hyperion Auction House - Fine Art & Design Sale

The month of June is looking to be a busy one for auctions here at Hyperion Auction House.

So, you’re thinking of buying Art at auction? With our Fine Art & Design Sale just around the corner, we thought it would be a great opportunity to help and offer our guidance.

What does the catalogue mean, and what should you look for in terms of condition? What should you do with your picture when you get it home?

The Catalogue

We have our auction catalogues available to view in advance online. Find the auction you would like to attend and click ‘view catalogue’. Hyperion will not take responsibility for statements made in the catalogue. It is up to the purchaser to verify the opinions given and to examine the condition of the art before the sale.

Cost

The “Estimate” or “Reserve Price” is shown online under the description of each item. These prices are agreed between the seller and Hyperion. If the item does not reach its reserve then it will be withdrawn without being sold. However in some cases an interested purchaser may approach Hyperion to make an offer on a withdrawn item.

The Auction

As a prospective buyer there are a few different options when it comes to buying at auction.

You can attend the auction in person. We are open from 9am on the morning of the auction for viewing and the auction starts at 11am. By telephone, we accept telephone bids on items valued at over £50. We can accept bids this way, up to and including the start of the auction. By commission bid, you can create an online account and login to place bids directly from our online auction catalogues. Or you can register for live online auction bidding.

Examining The Lot

Even if you have seen the condition report beforehand, it may be helpful for you to examine the Lot as carefully as possible before the auction to assess the condition and decide whether you may need to spend more money on cleaning or repairs when you get it home.

We hope this has been helpful and has you prepared for our upcoming auctions. Our first of two Fine Art & Design Auctions is on the 10th June 2023 with viewings on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th June from 9am til 5pm. The second auction is on the 24th June 2023 with a viewing on Friday 23rd June 9am til 5pm.

For more information visit our Auction Calendar page on the website.

Happy Bidding!
